#51 1916 1921 Vtg T. Witherby 3 1/2 Timber Framing Carpenter's Slick Wood Chisel. RARE PIECE FROM 1916 to 1921, Super clean, very little use, great Condition, believe to be original wood handle as pictured in the 1918 Winsted product catalog. The chisel was recently obtained from an estate sale, the exact age is unknown.

This is an early large timber framing carpenter's slick wood socket with early logo I believe made by the The Winsted Edge Tool Works era, as related to the 1918 Winsted Edge Tool Works catalog shows same logo. We believe this chisel would fall into the 1916 to the 1921 era, due to the box trade mark logo.

The chisel is stamped with the early logo trade mark with all cap block letters in a rectangle outline box as. WITHERBY, WARRANTED in a outline box logo. The chisel with handle is 29" in overall length, and from the blade tip to the end of the socket is 15" long and weighs 4 lbs 13 ozs. The blade is a straight edge and is 3 1/2 wide.

The chisel is in good condition and has been lightly cleaned.. the handle is believe to be original and was recently refinished close. To original color and finish... I don't believe the blade was ever sharpened I touch it up a little... But needs a fine honing...

As with the vintage of the chisel, there is some normal light wear, a few minor dings, some light pitting spots, and some discoloration, all as noted from the photos.
