Antique Vintage Stanley No. 3 TYPE 2 (1869-1872) Pre-Lateral Woodworking Plane
About 40-50 percent of original japanning with some dark spots, micro pitting, tiny nicks and scratches on sides and bottom of sole as some pitting and scratches, tiny hole in step sole see photo #9. Iron stamped "STANLEY RULE & LEVER CO" (6-7/8" long x 1-3/4" wide) in good condition.
Chip breaker in good condition, both iron and chip breaker have pitting, dark spots and scratches with BAILEYS PATENT DEC. 24,1867 stamped into chip breaker.A few light scratches, micro pitting, and nicks in solid lever cap and a little pitting and darkness on back, number "3" stamped on back, but cap narrows to about 2-5/8" not 2-3/4" at bottom of lever cap. Frog is stamped with number "3" and as deep scratches on front, tiny nicks and a little pitting with solid brass adjusting nut NO PATENT DATE stamped into it, see photo #9. Nicks and chips on beaded front knob, tote handle as no cracks or chips but hold down tote screw doesn't screw in all the way do to worn treads in base, use a little tape on tread. Both handles have small nicks and scratches from normal wear. Plane as been very lightly cleaned, oiled and waxed, please see pictures.
