With this plate bolted to a table it would seem to me that you would have greater holding power. This vice weighs 40 pounds it is no lightweight. This is a vintage item and it was made in the US probably in the late forties or early fifties.

The screw turns very easily and with a bit of the right lubricant it would turn very very easily. This woodworking vise opens to 12 in.

The dog would need to be filed on its four sides in order for it to go completely down. See the photo with my finger attached to the dog.

Someone has banged on it over the years and that peened it down on its top edges. All you need is a metal working file and about 10 minutes of your time..
