EBONY HANDLE JAMES SWAN FIRMER SET! Woodworking Chisels Cast Steel Antique
This is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING set of 8 early James Swan chisels! These are in the Firmer style, which is more rare than the bevel edge style.
The handles are not original. I made them out of Gaboon Ebony(very old stock, old school quality). I made them to the original specifications, see the last photo from an early James Swan Catalog. They were polished to a high natural luster and then waxed. They were then individually hand fitted to the chisel sockets for a perfect, tight fit.The average length of the blades from tip to shoulder is 6 1/4 inches. Just 1/4 inch shy of full length when they were new, which is amazing since they are over 100 years old!! Some of the blades have some pitting. They have been sharpened with water stones and are absolutely Scary - Shaving - Sharp!

They sharpen relatively easily and will cut hardwood for a LONG time before getting dull.
