This is an amazing old vise. I didn't know anything about it before I began researching it in order to list it here. Thank goodness there are great websites and videos to tell you all there is to know about these wonderful tools, including video and instruction on how to install them. They were originally patented in 1891 and it really hasn't changed dramatically over the years. It will hold your work and allow you to flip your work in the vice 360 degrees.

It will also allow you to tilt your piece up on to the top of the workbench or down. The jaws adjust to hold a straight piece or a pie shaped piece. Search for "Emmert Iron Hand" and you will find an awesome site that will tell you all there is to know about this device. In my research I found this to be the T5 version of the vise. I have the vice and a small lever that goes with it.

The site I mentioned tells me that this small piece is the Tilt Adjustment Clamp. I appear to be missing the Tilt AdjustmentRod.

That is (o) in the diagram under "Emmert Anatomy". It's 12" long and 3/4" in diameter and connects to the vise with a hex head bolt.

I opened the jaws a foot wide and tested the knob on the front that tilts the jaw to hold a piece that isn't square. Everything moves freely and looks good.

This vise was in my Dad's garage for years. He passed 10 years ago so it has gotten a bit dusty over the years. It was attached to a dinosaur of a workbench that looked as old as the vise.

I'm hoping someone local is willing to come pick this up in Harwood MD. Picking it up will also give you an opportunity to check it out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
