Japanese Plane, 1940's 1950's Ishido Teruhide, Newithold stock

Old stock Ishido Teruhide Japanese kana. The main blade is made of Swedish blue steel while the wrought iron body of the blade is a type of watetsu, often bridge steel from the 1880's with superior qualities. It is marked down the front Teruhide in hand engraved kanji with the blacksmiths logo stamp on the top right and his engraved stylised signature to the lower left, with the Tokyo Kana Unions round stamp below that. Stamped on the back is TOROKU ISHIDO TERUHIDE (registered name by Ishido Teruhide). The dai has beautiful quarter sawn grain patterns on the top and is bone dry with a very tight grain. The 270mm x 85mm x 35mm dai was cut in the 1960's or 1970's and came to me with the blade as dead stock from a closed-up tool store.

This is a fancy grained dai with a tsutsumi ledge which helps supports the blade bevel. The laminated sub blade is associated and is not an Ishido item. There is some old rust marks from storage that does not effect the cutting edge, which has come well prepared and razor sharp.
