The blade is laminated Shirogami white steel, renowned for its purity and ability to achieve an exceptionally keen edge. Comes with the original box. Dentou Kougeishi - Certified Traditional Craftsperson. Miyanaga is a 3rd-generation chisel maker from Banshu Miki , Japan's premier center for forged woodworking tools.
The founder, Teruo Miyanaga, holds the title of Dentou Kougeishi - a designation awarded by the Japanese government only to craftspeople who demonstrate exceptional technical mastery and dedication to preserving traditional techniques. Blades are laminated with Shirogami white steel backed with soft iron for an ideal combination of edge retention and resilience. Important - Not Ready to Use Out of the Box. Like all traditional Japanese chisels, this tool requires initial setup before professional use. Hoop Seating (Katsura-uchi): The hoop ring must be properly seated before first use.
Initial Sharpening: The blade requires sharpening and back preparation (ura-dashi) before use. Carbon Steel Care: Keep dry and lightly oil when storing to prevent rust. Experience Recommended: Intended for users familiar with traditional Japanese woodworking tools.

Use an appropriate mallet/hammer for chisels. Striking with excessive force or using an unsuitable hammer can damage handles/hoops and increase injury risk.
