Here is an old Spiers Ayr wood infill smoothing plane made in Scotland in the late 1800's. This plane was heavily used, and a barn find. It is marked "SPIERS AYR" on the brass lever cap. The markings/hallarks on the chip breaker are very faint, and hard to read.
The iron is a replaced Stanley, but the chip breaker is original. The front rosewood bun has been chipped on top as can be seen on the photos. Overall length of the sole, not including the rear handle, is about 7-7/16. The tote has been repaired/glued in the middle and, it has the original wood screw installed from the planes sole area to hold it in place.
The handle is pretty sturdy. There is pitting on most of the parts including the sides, and sole. There are scratches, little dings, and discoloration. Please look at all the photos for condition issues as they're part of the description.
