Rare Find JOSEPH DIMAN Open Throat 1/2 Router Woodworking Plane INV#LP11

There is a lot of provenance here... I believe it was made by a patter maker for a woodworker or apprentice. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker, artisan and wood carver who emigrated to the US from Italy after WWI. He settled in Nicetown section of Philadelphia.

His craftsmanship was known in the Phila area and as a result he was commissioned to assist in the restoration of Independence Hall and several other 18th & 19th century historic buildings in Center City Philadelphia, Chestnut Hill and Germantown. This Joseph Diman Router plane is in "as found" condition.

I believe made by a pattern maker for this woodworker. The only other info I have on Joseph Diman is that there is a Diman Voc-Tech school in Mass that dates back to 1910.

This might have been a student project piece??? The knobs are in good condition, some minor wear, scars and stains but still have a great feel and patina. The cutter measures approx 2-1/2" H x 3/8" W.

It would need to be honed for optimal use. The body is in very good condition but does have some plating loss. The copper collar is made by ILSCO Cin, Ohio and marked: 1/0-350 MCM. The sole has some minor pitting and rust. This is a rare find and a good working and collectible router.
