1880s # 1 Smooth Plane. This sale is for the Stanley Rule & Level Co. 1880s # 1 Smooth Plane pictured. This early #1 Stanley smooth plane cutter has the J mark that was introduced in 1872, and discontinued in 1885. The chip breaker is marked with Bailey patent info also.

This plane dates from between those dates and is in good overall condition. The frog seat is milled smooth where the frog meets the base also indicating an early model.

The early form rear handle has a repair to the tip of the horn and has been reglued about 2/3 rds of the way down. There is patina and staining on the body and sole. A pretty nice example of an early Stanley #1. Please look at all the pics to see the details and condition. What you see is what you get.
