Vintage Stanley No 5 1/2 Wood Plane, Type 11 1910-1918
Vintage Stanley No 5 1/2 wood plane. Plane has been completely restored. All the fixings and moving parts have been cleaned and oiled. The brass fixings, depth adjuster knob, blade, chip breaker and lever cap have all been cleaned and buffed to a mirror finish. The sole and frog have had 2 coats of fresh enamel paint, unfortunately the japaning was too far gone to save. The base of the sole has been flattened using a granite slab and buffed to 2,000 grit, it glides across the wood effortlessly.
The cheeks have also been cleaned and buffed. The handles have been strippe, sanded, waxed and had 3 coats of clear lacquer applied for protection. They look great and feel good in the hand. There has been a repair to the horn of the rear handle as it was missing. It's been repaired with a piece of spalted birch, which gives a good contrast.
The blade back of the blade has been flattened and buffed to a mirror finish. The bevel edge has been sharpened using a Sorby Pro Edge up to 3,000 grit and then honed on a leather strop, it's finished like a mirror and is razor sharpe, cut through Iroka wood like butter. This plane is in excellent condition for its age. All original, apart from the mentioned repair to the rear handle. The blade is authentic for the type and the handles are rosewood.
